Well, Chien Ming Wang was neither great nor awful. Wang went five innings, giving up three runs on six hits in a four to nothing loss to the Braves in Atlanta. This was probably the worst case scenario for the Yankees. If Wang had been stellar, even close to stellar... say seven innings with two runs and a few strike outs... New York could see him rounding back into shape. If he was dreadful again, then there would be good reason to put Phil Hughes in the rotation and either send Wang to the minors or to the bullpen. But while the Bomber brass will say they are pleased with his progress, Wang's rough third took New York out of the game early. So they are again "waiting to see how his next start goes."
Marc Carig of NJ.Com has a slightly different take on Wang's outing
The bigger picture for the Yankees is the problems they are having against what should be inferior competition. The Nationals and Marlins both took two of three from them and the Braves look poised to do the same. In what should have been an easy swing on the schedule, the Pinstripers are falling further behind the Red Sox. Can the Yanks string together three quality starts to help right this stretch of the season? They can't fall behind Boston and expect to rally in August.
As I am sure you know, Grady Sizemore was reactivated by the Indians in time for Tuesday night's game against the Pirates in the Three Rivers City. Grady seemed ready to rock, going two for five with two RBI and a run scored. Jason Kubel sat out of Tuesdays Twins game with his continuing stomach issues. Score!
Tonight's Action
Joba Chamberlain goes for the Bombers in yet another "big start" in a "must have" game. He faces off against import Kenshin Kawakami for the Braves in Atlanta. It will be interesting to see how Chamberlain responds. If he keeps the ball in the strike zone he should be fine. If your score card is filled with "BB" then it will be a long night.
The Mariners continue to see what Brandon Morrow offers as a starter. He takes the hill against Josh Greer and the Padres in Seattle. As I have said previously, I am a big fan of Morrow's. If he can start to control his fastball, he'll be a great compliment to Felix Hernandez.
The Red Sox look to keep the pressure on New York, sending Jon Lester to the mound on the road against Yankee killer Craig Stammen of the Nationals. As a Yankee fan, Craig Stammen's performance in the Bronx last week still makes me sick.
Fantasy Wrap
The Brewers seem to have found a very solid infielder in Casey McGehee. After Rickie Weeks hit the DL for the year, McGehee was recalled to the majors and hasn't looked back. He's played the majority of his games at 2b but has nine games played at 3b. Depending on your eligibility requirements (five or ten games played at a position), you may have a versatile player who is currently owned in only 21% of all CBS Sports baseball leagues. If you need a 2b, I definitely advise on picking him up. He is hot right now and shows good fundamentals at the plate. If he can pick up one more game at 3b (which might be tough over Bill Hall and Matt Gamel at this point) he would be a great find.
