Still trying to wrap my head around the deal between the Mets and Braves. Omar Minaya said in his press conference that Francoeur was better suited for the vast right and right centerfield of Citi Field than Church. He also believes that Mr. Not Patient at the Plate can grow with the Mets. Francoeur IS 25 and has a couple of years of club control on his contract. He MAY turn it around... but as the Mets' line up struggles, they don't need someone who has little to no patience at the plate and has majorly struggled the past year and a half.
Ryan Church at least gets out of New York, where he clearly was not well liked. Church was red hot to start last season before his concussion. Then the Mets put him on a plane to the West coast, with a concussion! Then they bungled his recovery. Then they screwed up his playing time this year. Now Church gets to go to Atlanta and play for a great manager in Bobby Cox.
It will be interesting to see how Jerry Manual will play this one for the Mets. Will he sit Francoeur after he goes three for five? The new right fielder for the Mets is a good long-term gamble, but I think I may see a white-flag falling out of Mr. Minaya's pocket.

While I dont think this is a world series winning move by any stretch, I think it was extremely smart. Very high reward, no risk.
Frenchy is 25 as you mention, and under contract through 2011. Chruch is 29 and free after this season I believe. Francouer has 2 100 ribbie seasons under his belt something Chruch has never sniffed. Hell, when Frenchy fell off the face of the earth last year, he had 71 rib's, more than Church's career high.
He's solid defensively, and other than the .250 average this year, has Church beat pretty much across the board.
Basically in summary, I think they both suck, but one is about 90% more likely to not suck in the future, so why not grab him?
the Mets love to botch injuries...the Jose Reyes injury is ridiculous. 1st "we're benching him because he doesn't hustle" 2nd he's day to day 3rd still day to day 4th 15 day DL for a cortizone shot 5th slight tear in him hammy 6th he's fielding and hitting but it hurts to run 7th LETS GIVE HIM ANOTHER CORTIZONE SHOT!!
