So the trade rumors continu to swirl with the four p.m. deadline this Friday. Roy Halladay is still a Blue Jay. Cliff Lee and Victor Martinez are still Indians. And Jarrod Washburn is still a Mariner.
Ryan Garko was dealt to the San Francisco Giants yesterday. Good to see the Giants are trying to solidify their line up for a run at the Wild Card.
Check out MLB Trade Rumors for the latest. If I hear anything not on there, or think it is worth a direct link I will do so, but they are working their tails off so I want to give them their due.
The Yankees heard that Chien Ming Wang is now out for the season, as he now requires shoulder surgery. That obviously throws them further into the mix for a starting pitcher. They have been most closely linked to Washburn, but don't count them out for Lee or Halladay. No one thought they would get Teixiera, and we see how that turned out.
The Mets have now beaten the Colorado Rockies two in a row and have moved five and a half games back in the Wild Card. While five and a half is a lot to make up, with half of the National League in your way, it isn't impossible. Just ask fans of the Phillies. This, along with a ton of other reasons (Omar Minaya hoping to make a splash to cover up the awful news conference he has the other day, needing to convince a fan base you will put a decent team on the field, and so on) now makes the Mets players in the trade market.
Mark Buerhle really enjoys being perfect. Though he ended up taking the loss in the ChiSox game against the Twins, the lefty went through five and one third without letting a runner reach base. His overall total of perfection reached 45 innings a new major league record.
As the Son of Zim and I discussed on our podcast last week, Buerhle is one of the sure bets each year in Major League baseball. He has never had less than 10 wins in a season and takes the ball every time he is up in the rotation. He is a fun guy to watch pitch and someone who is easy to root for at a time when some major leaguers really turn me off. Buerhle has even talked about retiring after his current contract is up, just because he doesn't wang to hang on too long. I am definitely a fan of his.
