July Fourth Blast Off!

Every major league park today will commemorate the farewell speech of Lou Gehrig, made 70 years ago. It is simply amazing how good a ball player Gehrig was and how he had to walk away with plenty of good games left. The ceremonies will also focus on the disease that took Gehrig, ALS, or as it came to be known, Lou Gehrig's Disease.

MLB is also honoring veterans today, part of their support of the Welcome Back Veterans campaign.

Jake Fox had a true walk-off for the Cubs last night. He drew a free pass with the bases loaded in the tenth to plate the winning run. Mike DiFelice took the loss for the Brewers, Kevin Gregg got the win for the Cubs.

I am assuming you are aware of this by now, but Albert Pujols is REALLY good. Mr. Pujols went two for five with five RBI, including his fourth grand slam, which sets a new Cardinals record. The Cards beat the Reds seven to four.

The Giants put a major hurt on the Astros, shutting them out 13 to nothing. My main man Pablo Sandoval went two for five with three RBI and two runs scored. Sandoval is seventh in the majors in batting average, hitting .329 on the season in his rookie year. If the Giants can sneak into the wild card and Mr. Sandoval continues on this pace, he could get some serious consideration for not only Rookie of the Year, but also MVP.

Hope everyone enjoys the 4th.
