The Third of July

Something about teams that wear the color red and walk offs of late. Cincinnati won in their final at bat last night, beating Arizona three to two in the tenth inning. Joey Votto had the bases loaded RBI single.

Speaking of red in the uniform, the New York Yankees (and I assume with the rest of the majors) are wearing red hats today in honor of July 4th. Love this country, don't like the hats.

The Mets won a slugfest against the Pirates in Pittsburgh. The day-game was a make-up from what should have been a four game series earlier in the year. Ryan Church went three for six with two RBI and two runs scored.

The Cubs jumped out to an early lead in the first en route to a nine to five win over the Brewers in Chi-Town. Ryan Dempster struck out nine over six and two thirds for the win.

Have I mentioned I don't dig the red hats? Isn't baseball America's past time? Do we really need a new hat to remind us that this weekend is the celebration of our nation's independence? Oh, wait, it's just another way for MLB and New Era to market a new product. And making money is, in the end, truly the American way.
