The Yankees optioned Ramiro Pena to Scranton-Wilkes Barre to make room for Eric Hinske. This move keeps Cody Ransom on the bench for the Bombers.
(Our scene opens on a police interagation room with one single light hanging over a metal table. A 40-something year old sits with his head in his hands. He is wearing a pinstripe uniform. Two cops enter.)
Cop 1: I'll ask you one more time Girardi, what were you thinking? How'd you think it was going to work out?
Girardi looks up from his hands and smiles a soulless smile
Cop 2: (Knocking out Girardi's hands causing his head to fall towards the table) You answer officer Feinsand when he talks to you. So, how did you think it would turn out?
Girardi: I thought it was the right move. The kid played well, but Ransom was the right move.
Cop 1: Right move? The right move? You hear this Murti, you hear what's coming out of this guy's mouth? You trade for Hinske and keep another guy who can play 3b and 1b instead of a back up for your shortstop?
Girardi: Ransom can play short. He CAN PLAY SHORT!!!!
Cop 2: Its official Feinsand, he's lost it. Pena was playing well. Ransom should have been shown the door. But you want to show loyalty. Next you'll tell me Joba belongs in the rotation.
Well maybe it didn't happen like that, but one could only hope! I don't know that the Yankees will live to regret keeping Ransom and moving Pena back to Triple-A. Jeter has been playing well and shouldn't need time off any time soon and in-a-pinch, Ransom could play short. It just seems now the Bombers have two limited bench players in Hinske and Ransom instead of having an extra pinch runner and excellent middle infielder in Pena.
Mark DeRosa is now day-to-day after injuring his wrist yesterday.
Mike Pelfry helps stop the Mets losing streak this afternoon, going seven and two-thirds against the Brewers. Final score was one to nothing.

It appears they want Pena to develop some outfielding skillz.
