The Cure for the Common Slump...

The New York Mets...

Albert Pujols had been majorly slumping following the All-Star Break. Last night at Citi Field, Pujols got back on track, helping the Cardinals to a twelve to seven win in ten over the hapless Mets. The Cardinals first baseman hit two homers, including a grand slam in the top of the tenth inning to blow the game open. Frankie Rodriguez blew his fourth save of the year, giving up two runs in the ninth. Johan Santana struggled, but was in line for the win after going eight innings.

From the category "It could ALWAYS be worse", the Mets may lose their hottest hitter of late, Luis Castillo, to a sprained ankle. Castillo was injured when he slipped on the dugout steps. And... word is coming out that Jose Reyes is still experiencing pain in his hamstring and may be shut down for the year. When does the Jets season start again?

The Yankees moved back to a game and a half up on the Red Sox, as they bested Roy Halladay and the Blue Jays five to three, while the Red Sox lost to the Tampa Bay Rays four to two in the 13th inning of the game. New York got homers from Johnny Damon, Mark Teixiera, and Hideki Matsui. Tampa Bay got a one BIG homer from all world third baseman Evan Longoria, a walk off in the bottom of the 13th.

Prince Fielder is not a man I would want to piss off. Fielder charged the Dodgers clubhouse after being plunked by former teammate Guillermo Mota with two outs in the top of the ninth of a 17 to four LA rout. Fielder was restrained before he could do any damage.

Hank Aaron spoke with the Associated Press on Tuesday night. In a very wide ranging discussion, Aaron discusses Pete Rose's possible reinstatement as well as the need for all the names on the 2003 PED list to come out.

I have to admit, I completely agree with the "former" homerun king. Let's all get over this steriod thing by putting the names out there and being done with it. The longer these court cases go on and the lists exist, it is just going to bring the story back up again. If I were MLB, I would release the names on the Friday before Labor Day.
