I apologize for my absence. I had one of my best friends wedding over the weekend and all of my attention was focused on that and the Jersey Shore.
The Yankees moved 7.5 games up on the Red Sox over the weekend. (Even with losing Sunday)
Derek Jeter set the all time mark for hits for a shortstop. He picked up career hits 2673, 2674, and 2675 to tie and pass Luis Aparicio. Next up on DJ's "hit list" is the all-time Yankees record, held by a gentleman you may have heard of, Lou Gehrig at 2,721.
The Texas Rangers moved up a half game on the Red Sox for the Wild-Card.
The Angels put up nine runs in a half frame in extra innings!
Washington Nationals top pick Stephen Strasburg remains unsigned heading into the deadline tonight. Strasburg is one of 14 first round picks that remains unsigned heading into the deadline tonight and speaks to a much larger issue in Majore League Baseball. The agents for these prospects hold way too much power. I do not begrudge anyone getting paid the most possible. Strasburg is a true talent at the college level and looks like it will work out for him the majors some day. But he has yet to prove a thing. Major League Baseball needs to get a rookie salary cap in place and make these players in their keep. There has to be a happy medium between the current MLB way of doing things and the National Football League's non-guaranteed contracts.
I hope Strasburg signs with the Nats. It would let dominoes fall behind him and also would helpe energize a very down franchise. There is some decent talent in Washington that could come together with a top of the rotation type.
