Fridays Facts

Great job by Chris Carpenter and Johan Santana in measuring up to the term "pitchers duel". Santana got the better of the Cardinals ace in a three to two Mets win. Nick Evans provided the offense for New York with two RBI. It is ok to question, "Nick who?" The Mets now await the New York Yankees at Citi Field. Subway Series coverage from the NY Daily News.

Alex Rodriguez helped the Yankees beat the Braves in Atlanta last night. A-Rod seemed to have something click at the plate after struggling for a couple of weeks now. He connected on his 563rd career home run, tying him with Reggie Jackson for 11th all time.

John Smoltz's return to a major league rotation did not turn out as well as planned. Smotlz went five innings giving up five runs to the Nationals in a nine to three Washington victory. He did strike out five and only walked one. Jordan Zimmerman got the win for the Nats.

Friday Night Favorite

Loving the matchup in Milwaukee tonight. Nine and one Matt Cain of the San Francisco Giants takes on Yovani Gallardo, standing at seven and four. Cain has finally had the break through season the Giants have been expecting and fits in nicely with the rest of their rotation. He boasts a nine and one record with a 2.28 ERA. Gallardo is also living up to the hype he heard coming into the 2009 season, averaging more than a K per inning (93 K's in 90 innings pitched) with a 3.00 ERA and 1.18 WHIP.

Full Disclosure
Yes, I have an East Coast Bias... working in the morning really throws off my ability to watch any of the West Coast games until the weekend. You have to admit, bias or not, the AL East is really shaping up the way most people expected, save the emergence of a fourth team in the race with the Blue Jays. One game separates the Yankees from the Blue Jays and one game separates the Blue Jays from the Rays. The Bombers sit four games back of Boston, whom they don't play until August. Will these teams beat each other up and let an AL West or Central team take the wild card? Or are they just that much better in th East?
