Mariano Rivera recorded his 500th career save. Did you know he is really good at what he does?
In wrapping up the four to two win over the Mets on Sunday, Rivera helped the Yankees complete a three game sweep of their cross-town rival. The wins don't hold as much juice as in the past, as the Bombers were playing against the Mets AAAA lineup. Mo also picked up his first career RBI. Chien Ming Wang continues to show improvement and Phil Hughes his settling into his bullpen role. Strange how the Yanks aren't all up in arms (pun intended) about Hughes staying in the rotation like Joba Chamberlain.
Tommy Hanson continued his impressive run to start his major league career. He shut down the Red Sox over six innings, giving up just two hits and no runs en route to a Braves victory.
Astros closer Jose Valverde was caught doing his best Brad Lidge impersonation yesterday, blowing a three to two lead over the Tigers in the top of the ninth. Brandon Inge hit a two out, two run homerun to give Detroit the four to three win.
Aaron Cook is no fluke this season. The Rockies righty is now eight and three on the season after going eighth innings, scattering nine hits and giving up one earned run in the three to win Colorado win.
Plenty more to come later on tonight. A little off schedule due to a hectic weekend, but we will have everything covered this week. All Star game is around the corner and the summer "hot stove" should start heating up soon.
