September Call Ups Revisted

So, it has happened again. September call-ups have made for a major headache in the world of fantasy baseball. I had discussed earlier that the Giants handling of Pablo Sandoval would have been quite different if the injury had occurred in August or before. He would have been quickly put on the DL and allowed to heal. Instead, in September, he has been kept on the roster because of the expanded rosters. There is no need for the Giants to move him just for his roster spot.

Now, I face the same issue. Grady Sizemore has been shut down for the year. The Indians have determined that Sizemore should be shut down for the season for both elbow and left groin surgery over the next two weeks. But Cleveland has not put him on the disabled list, instead just shutting him down and using the expanded roster to replace him day to day.

I waited for Sizemore to be DLed so I could use my league's DL Substitution rule to place Carlos Guillen in my lineup. It didn't happen. I texted my league's commish on Friday around dinner time asking about the rule. I texted him again on Saturday. Finally I sent an email to himself and my opponent asking for a specific ruling on the subject. Now, of course, this is going to cause an issue on one side of the decision or the other.

It just goes to show that September rosters are not my friend.
