Fantasy baseball weeks are coming to a close. I need big starts from Chris Carpenter and Ubaldo Jimenez to win a big game in my head to head points league. I like my chances. Both Jimenez and Carpenter have pitched well this season. Carpenter has long been an "ace" but has had trouble staying healthy the last couple of years. This year he is five and three with a 2.42 ERA. Jimenez has long had "ace" stuff, but struggled to be consistent. This year he stands at six and seven but has an ERA under four and 85 K's in just over 103 innings pitched.
Carpenter goes up against Bronson Arroyo of the Reds. Carpenter has lost his last two decisions, though he hasn't pitched too poorly. Jimenez matchup is a tough one, facing off against possible NL All Star team starting pitcher Dan Haren of Arizona (even though I say possible, I don't think probable. If Tim Lincecum doesn't start, then it is a major mistake.) Wish me luck.
Chien Ming Wang's season took another terrible turn. This time Wang left with a shoulder strain. The Yankees went on to beat the Blue Jays six to five in twelve innings. You have to wonder now if this is just a lost season for Mr. Wang. Joe Girardi said in the post-game that Phil Hughes and Alfredo Aceves will most likely stay in the bullpen and Sergio Mitre is a possibility to get the start. Hughes and Aceves have pitched well out of the pen, but I still ask the quesiton why Hughes' future as a starter is less important than Joba Chamberlain's. Mitre is two and one in Triple-A after serving a 50-game suspension for a failed drug test.
Not really sure if you have noticed... but the Mets aren't very good. They lost to the Phillies four to one.
The Red Sox lost to the Mariners three to two. That cuts their lead in the AL East to one game.
The All-Star teams will be announced today. Remember folks "this one means something". We shall see.
I think I am slowly becoming a closet Giants fan. They have a STUD pitcher in Tim Lincecum and some good young talent that is fun to watch (Pablo Sandoval being my favorite at the moment.) Lincecum ran his scoreless streak to 23 innings in a nine to nothing win over Houston.
More soon...

Screw the Giants. Any team west of Chicago is of no consequence to the rest of the world.
